China is the world’s third largest country, dominating the map of eastern Asia. With an area of 9.6 million square kilometers (3.7 millions square miles), China is a very diverse place. From the Himalayas in the West, the super cities of the east, the desert and grasslands of the north and the tropical south, China is one of the most diverse geographies in the world.
Famous for being the most populated country on earth (1.357 billion), it is home to some of the world’s biggest cities. 8 of the world’s 20 biggest. It is home to 56 ethnic groups, with over 90% of the people being Han Chinese. While there are many dialects and local languages, Mandarin is the official language and spoken almost everywhere.
Its incredibly long history, means China is home to many famous landmarks such as the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, and the Forbidden City. At the same time, the modern cities have all the amenities of any international city, with countless restaurants, shopping and lots of entertainment options.
The weather varies dramatically in such a large country, but the cities on the east experience 4 distinct seasons. The summers are hot and humid with July and August being the peak of summer. In the winter, it falls below freezing and snow is common.
